The Hague Institute for Policy Research of the Netherlands and the National Economics University of Hanoi (NEU) jointly held a seminar in Hanoi on July 22 to help the NEU improve the quality of masters training programmes for its graduates.

Since 1993, Vietnam has co-operated with the Netherlands in training masters of economics. The Netherlands has provided US$1 million annually to help Vietnam improve infrastructure and invite foreign economic experts to give lectures. However, many students complained that it is difficult for them to complete 30 subjects in a two-and-a-half-year course.

Professor Nguyen Khac Minh, Director of the Vietnam-Netherlands Master Programme for Development Economics said that to achieve higher results, the number of subjects needed to study should be reduced to 12-15, focusing on economics.

Participants at the seminar also devised training orientations to meet the demands of society and businesses. They proposed increasing time for self-study and practice.
