The Ministry of Post and Telematics held a ceremony in Hanoi on January 22 to implement tasks for 2007 with a specific target of developing 38 million telephones, an increase of 11 million telephones compared to 2006 and reach an average of 43 telephones per 100 people.

The post and telecommunications sector aims to fetch a turnover of VND60,000 billion (US$3.75 billion) in 2007, at the rate of 21-22 Internet users per 100 people and maintain a growth rate of 25 percent in the hope of earning US$10 billion by 2010.


Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Post and Telematics Do Trung Ta asked enterprises to boost IT development so as to minimize their dependence on foreign technology.


Regarding planning, he also asked them to build 3-5 year development plans to catch up with IT development.


This year, he said, the ministry will submit to the Government 10 proposals related to the Government’s decrees on investment in post and telecommunications and the management of IT application projects using the State budget.
