Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Mai Hung won the gold medal in the girls U14 Asian Youth Chess Championship after finishing with seven points from nine matches.

The silver medal went to Vo Thi Kim Phung, also from Vietnam, who finished with 6.5 points.


Vu Thi Dieu Uyen and Do Hoang Minh Tho each won a silver medal in the U8s and U12s after earning 6.5 points and 7.5 points, respectively.

Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Tra won a bronze in the U12s competition with seven points, while Vu Thi Dieu Ai took another bronze in the U10s, also with seven points.


Meanwhile, in the boys U10s, Le Huu Thai won a bronze medal with seven points.

Vietnam sent 11 chess players to the tournament in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates, which opened on August 30.


The championship attracted 200 participants from 22 countries, with the largest and strongest contingent coming from India. The event was divided into the traditional U10, U12 and U14 categories, in addition to a new U8 division this year.
