The Vietnamese Government will do its utmost to implement high-level agreements to develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

While receiving Sun Guoxiang, newly accredited Chinese ambassador to Vietnam in Hanoi on January 12, Mr Dung spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economics, trade and investment. He said that bilateral trade has grown and flourished for the past consecutive years, reaching US$21 billion in 2008.

The PM described the recent completion of border demarcation and landmark planting as a historic event in the Vietnam-China relationship that will facilitate exchange and cooperation between the two nations, particularly between their border areas.

For his part, Ambassador Sun pledged to do his utmost to promote bilateral relations in the future.

At another reception for Mongolian Ambassador Palam Sundev the same day, PM Dung said Vietnam wishes to bring the traditional relationship between the two countries to new heights for mutual benefit.

He said that the Vietnamese Government has instructed relevant ministries and agencies to work alongside Mongolian authorities to implement the agreements reached by the two countries during State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visit to Mongolia last October.

The PM applauded the result of the 13th session of the Vietnam-Mongolia inter-governmental committee last December, during which the two sides agreed to develop their trade, economic and investment ties in the coming years.

Mr Sundev said that Mongolia wants to increase the exchange of visits with Vietnam to learn from its experience.
