British newspaper The Guardian on August 25 ran an article by Virginia Morris recalling her touching meeting with Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap at his residence in Hanoi on the occasion of his 95th birthday.

Morris, the author of A History of the Ho Chi Minh Trail The Road to Freedom, said General Giap was in good health, sitting upright in military uniform, and that his voice and mind were still sharp.

The author highlighted General Giap's contributions to planning the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a lifeline to provide the Vietnamese army and people with necessities during the war against the US.

In the article, the author also recalled the Dien Bien Phu victory over the French colonialists in 1954 with the prominent role of General Giap.

In conclusion, the author wrote that "the Vietnamese public has always held General Giap in high esteem and remembered the Ho Chi Minh Trail as crucial in ending foreign rule."
