Cat Bi airport’s second terminal construction given thumbs up
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has approved a project to construct a second terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
According to the CAAV, investment will be sourced from various social sources.
The Cat Bi International Airport is expected to soon face overloading spurred by a substantial surge in passenger numbers. The number of passengers rose 42.5% in 2016, while in the first three months of this year, the airport welcomed 538,000 passengers and the figure is expected to reach 2.1 million by the end of this year.
The VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company (Vietjet Air) is suggesting investing VND6 trillion (US$263.8 million) in the second terminal. The company will ensure 30% of the figure with the remainder arranged by the Ho Chi Minh City Development Bank (HDBank).
Cat Bi has become a 4E-level international airport under the International Civil Aviation Organisation standards, a first-level military airport and a standby for Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport.
