Hai Phong will host the 8th Vietnam-France Decentralisation Conference on November 4-11, under the theme “Vietnam-France decentralization cooperation: Strengthening integration for sustainable development”.

150 delegates from France’s appropriate authorities, non-governmental organisations and businesses will attend the event.

The event will focus on further cooperation in sustainable development (environment, urban planning, urban and rural transport infrastructure), human resources training, improvement of public services, economic ties, and cultural linkages.

Participants also plan to sign six agreements and new projects, a joint communiqué to push decentralization projects between Vietnam and France.

Other activities, such as a tour around Hai Phong City, art performances, gala dinner and exhibitions, will take place.

The conferences began in the late 1980s and contributed to developing economics, society and the common interest of localities in the two countries. Now 52 of France’s localities are partners of 54 Vietnam’s cities and provinces in such fields as culture, education and training, healthcare and urban planning. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Yen Bai have been in close cooperation with France’s cities and provinces for many years.
