France keen on energy cooperation with Vietnam

(VOV) - France is listed as one of Vietnam’s leading partners among 27 European Union (EU) nations in terms of trade exchange, investment and ODA funding.

France is keen to boost energy cooperation with Vietnam and French businesses have been operating effectively in Vietnam, said French ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Poirier at a recent meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang.

If Vietnam and the EU are successful in their negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), it will help increase the trade exchange between Vietnam and EU countries including France.

The growing presence of Vietnamese businesses and products in France is proven by a constant increase in trade turnover, ambassador Poirier said.

He said he hopes Vietnam will create a firm legal foundation for French businesses to seek investment opportunities in the country.

Minister Hoang said the French ambassador’s proposal on energy cooperation will be discussed in the near future.

Next year both countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties with a wide range of activities to boost bilateral trade cooperation in the years to come, he said.

Minister Hoang proposed that the two countries take specific measures to iron out snags in business operations.

Vietnam, for its part, is sparing no efforts to streamline administrative procedures to create a transparent, just and stable investment environment, he added.
