2012’s top 7 artistic and photographic exhibitions

(VOV) -The Department of Fine Arts, Photography, and Exhibitions selected all seven events in coordination with relevant associations and management agencies.

1. A special President Ho Chi Minh statue was inaugurated on December 9 in the Central Highland province of Gia Lai province.


The ceremony featured the participation of local ethnic minority members. The bronze statue is 10.8 m tall, weighs 16 tonnes, and stands on a 4.5m high concrete tile throne. A 600m2 stone relief adorns the wall behind the statue, depicting scenes of daily life, work, and combat.  

2. The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi successfully hosted the 2012 ASEAN Graphic Painting Contest from August 6–16. Nine out of ten ASEAN member nations participated.

3. Hanoi’s Vu Anh Tuan and Bac Ninh’s Nguyen Ngoc Son held two private photo exhibitions in August and March, exploring Vietnamese sovereignty over land, seas, and islands following their trips to Truong Sa (Spratly Islands).

A contest and exhibition on Vietnamese borders, seas, and islands—launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism—has received 3,013 works from 235 artists across the country.

4. Hanoi organised the first national photographic exhibition themed around exploration, creativity, and play from August 20–27.

5. Ho Chi Minh City hosted the 26th National Artistic Photo Exhibition from October 10–17, attracting its largest number of entries from photographers nationwide.

6. 62-year-old female artist Dang Ai Viet exhibited her work celebrating heroic Vietnamese mothers at Hanoi’s Vietnam Women Museum from 24 July until the end of September.

Viet embarked on a solo motorbike journey through 63 provinces and cities, meeting with many heroic mothers to finshish her collection of them The Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism awarded her a certificate of merit.

7. Ho Chi Minh City successfully organised the largest ever International Art Exhibition for Female Artists. Running from July 24–27, the 2012 event included works by 212 artists representing 23 countries.

The exhibition, dubbed Her Presence in Colours, debuted in 1993. It has been held in nine different countries—China, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, the UK, the US, and Australia.
