Poetry Day 2013 targets youth

(VOV) - Vietnam Writers’ Association President Huu Thinh has announced young people will be main subjects of the 2013 Vietnamese Poetry Day on February 22–24.

Themed “Youth and the Fatherland”, the event will be a valuable opportunity for younger writers to show their talent, demonstrate their patriotism, and encourage the poets of their generation on to greater excellence.

Vietnamese Poetry Day 2013 will encompass activities including a poem competition for university students and special poem club performances.

US Poet Bruce Weight, who is a Vietnam war veteran, will be invited to meet and discuss the art of poetry with Vietnamese youth.

According to Poet Huu Thinh, a special feature of this year’s event will be the two poem competitions themed "Youth and the Fatherland" and "Motherland-Spring." Entrants are required to highlight national sovereignty, the East Sea, and the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

Students from nine universities and colleges will compose and perform poems introducing their schools and their impressions of the national landscape and people.

Poetry newspapers and magazines will publish special Poetry Day editions.
