The Red River Delta province of Thai Binh on January 12 launched a programme to support HIV/AIDS-infected children as part of the World Bank-funded project on HIV/AIDS prevention in Vietnam.

Thai Binh is home to 524 under-16-year-old children whose fathers or mothers have been infected with HIV/AIDS. Of the total, 234 are either fatherless or motherless and 31 others are totally orphaned.

The province has to date detected 2,264 HIV/AIDS patients, of whom 709 have developed full-blown AIDS and 518 have died.
