Honduras wants closer ties with Vietnam

(VOV) - Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Sosa has wished to strengthen friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.

While receiving Vietnamese ambassador Le Thanh Tung on October 22 in Tegucigalpa, President Sosa said he wants to join efforts with Vietnam in boosting cooperation between the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Associations of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

He expressed admiration for Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national independence and their present Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

He conveyed thanks to President Truong Tan Sang for inviting him to visit Vietnam and said he is looking forward to witnessing its development achievements.

For his part, ambassador Tung reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of strengthening ties in various fields with Honduras and expressed hope that the President’s upcoming visit to Vietnam will establish a legal framework for bilateral cooperation, especially in trade, industry, consumer goods production, agro-forestry-fishery product processing, science-technology, and culture.

It will also give fresh impetus for the two nations to cooperate in international organisations and at multilateral forums, he said.

Vietnam and Honduras established diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level on May 17, 2005.
