The Party and State of Vietnam will continue to create favourable conditions for young people to actively participate in the world’s youth movements and struggle for a world of peace, national independence, democracy, social progress and prosperity.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh made the statement while receiving delegates of the 17th congress of World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) in Hanoi on March 13.

He thanked democratic and progressive youth movements across the world as well as the WFDY and its member organizations for their heart-felt support to the Vietnamese people’s past struggle for independence, freedom and national unification, considering it an important factor behind the great victories of the Vietnamese revolution.

He informed the delegates about the tremendous achievements Vietnam has made during the Doi Moi (Renewal) process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

“The aspiration and common goal of the Vietnamese people is to successfully build socialism, and young Vietnamese generations play the vanguard role on this front,” said Mr Manh. “The Party and State of Vietnam consider the youth work a vital issue for national development, and create favourable conditions for the youth to fully develop their talent and responsibility.”

Miguel Madeira, chairman of the WFDY, briefed Mr Manh on the results of the congress and thanked the Vietnamese Party and State and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for their assistance to ensure the success of the congress. He said foreign delegates were impressed by Vietnam’s substantial changes and progress during the Doi Moi process.

The Party leader spoke highly of the results of the congress and expressed his belief that the WFDY will continue to unite democratic and progressive youth forces in the world in the struggle against imperialism, exploitation, injustice and war for the sake of peace, international solidarity, social progress and the youth’s fundamental rights.
