Belarus proposes increasing trade with Vietnam

(VOV) - Belarus and Vietnam should fully tap their potential to soon achieve a twofold increase in bilateral trade, Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei proposed in Hanoi on March 24.

At a reception hosted by State President Truong Tan Sang, the visiting Belarus diplomat said both countries need to create the best possible conditions for their business communities to operate in each other’s territories.

He briefed Sang on the result of his talks with Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on the same day, which he said will lay a firm foundation for the two countries to strengthen multifaceted cooperation.

FM Vladimir Makey (L) proposed a two-fold increase in trade between Belarus and Vietnam

Makei hailed Vietnam’s increased role globally and said Belarus is willing to boost bilateral relations in all areas with Vietnam.

Belarus supports Vietnam’s bids to join United Nations organisations in the coming years, he told his host.

President Sang spoke highly of the result of talks between the two Foreign Ministries, and stressed Vietnamese people bear in mind valuable assistance given by Belarus in the past and at present.

He echoed Makei’s view as saying Vietnam and Belarus still have great potential for stronger cooperation, and said he will ask relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies to foster cooperation with Belarus.

He proposed Belarus speed up negotiations of a free trade agreement between the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and Vietnam, so that the trade pact will be signed as soon as possible.

Sang said he is looking forward to receiving President Alexander Lukashenko one day to add fresh impetus to bilateral ties.
