PM affirms Vietnam's commitment to CLV cooperation

VOV.VN - On November 23, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered his opening speech at the 9th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Development Triangle Area Summit in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The government leader said the three countries have had their roles enhanced thanks to stable, high economic growth despite regional instabilities and due to their close cooperation.

“With the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community, the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam has become closer and more effective. We have been together to overcome difficulties, seize opportunities, share benefits, and stay united to develop our economies. We should work for the people’s prosperity and happiness. At this summit, I can confirm Vietnam’s commitment to cooperation in the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area and hope for unified guidelines to be developed to make the region more dynamic and thriving. Vietnam will do all it can to contribute to its development," Phuc said.

PM Phuc also presented Vietnam’s proposals for futrue cooperation, including the building of mechanisms facilitating the free movement of vehicles registered in provinces inside the triangle area, the application of the “one-stop-shop” customs model at the Moc Bai-Ba Vet international border gate in 2017, and regular dialogue mechanisms between Governmental offices of the three countries and businesses.

He also called on Cambodia and Laos to participate in the Convention on the Law of the Non-navigational Uses of International Watercourses and, together with Vietnam, consider participating in the Convention on the Protection and Use of Trans-boundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention).

The government leader said he hopes the three Governments will partner with each other to build a programme on official development assistance (ODA) mobilisation and another programme on joint investment and trade promotion.

Vietnam’s Viettel telecom group will invest in modernizing the telecom networks in the three countries using 4G technology and help with the formation of their e-Governments, he said.

Since its establishment 17 years ago, the triangle area's cooperative mechanisms have been strengthened considerably, contributing to enhancing links, ensuring security and political stability, and promoting poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the three countries.
