The Minister for Finance Vu Van Ninh has issued a decree requesting directors of provincial and municipal departments of finance to closely monitor the situation of prices and adopt timely measures to stabilize the market during the Lunar New Year (Tet).

Mr Ninh insisted on the need to strictly control the prices of essential goods and services, especially those listed in national target programmes, in an effort to prevent both individuals and businesses from driving up prices for their own profit.

He also asked the local finance departments to inspect compliance with State regulations on price management and goods sales and to check the listing of prices.

The finance departments, he said in the decree, should submit plans to their respective people’s committees to advance financial resources to the businesses that have been assigned to produce and reserve essential goods for the Tet 2010 holiday season.
