The Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group started construction of a 30-MW thermal power plant at the Nong Son Coal Mine in central Quang Nam province on April 7.

The VND680-billion plant, using advanced and environmentally-friendly technology, will annually consume over 100,000 tonnes of coal, 30,000 tonnes of limestone and 300 tonnes of fuel oil.

Once operational, the plant will add more than 158 million kWh of electricity to the national power grid per year, earning an annual revenue of VND100 billion and creating jobs for over 200 local workers.

The Nong Son Coal Mine boasts a reserve of 9 million tonnes and an open-air coal output of 60,000 tonnes per annum.

The Nong Son Coal Factory exploited nearly 22,000 tonnes of coal in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year rise of 45 percent, with a total revenue of VND7 billion.
