48 people rescued after boats collide on Ha Long Bay

Forty-eight people were rescued in Ha Long Bay on May 2 after the tourist boat they were traveling in collided with a vessel carrying rocks.

The accident occurred at around noon near the Trong Mai islet of Ha Long Bay.

Officials report the collision caused the tourist boat to become submerged.

Nguyen Duc Long, chairman of Quang Ninh People's Committee, was at the site of the accident to lead the rescue efforts. All of the passengers and crew were safely rescued, according to officials.

The tourist boat was carrying 36 adults and 12 children on a sightseeing cruise. The vessel transporting rocks was driven by Bui Manh Son, age 42, from Quang Yen town of Quang Ninh.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
