Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam, Alcides Gastao Rostand Prates, has been presented with “For the education cause” insignia in Hanoi on November 8.
The presentation was made in recognition of the ambassador’s contributions to the education development of Vietnam, particular in the training of the Portuguese language within the country during his five-year term of office from 2002.

In 2004, the Portuguese Division of the Hanoi University opened its first course with the assistance of the ambassador. He presented materials, including CDs and nearly 100 book titles on various topics to students.

At the Portuguese-speaking club together, many exchange programmes have been launched to generate greater access to this language for local teachers and students.

Apart from inviting many Brazilian experts to Vietnam for free teaching, the ambassador also worked as a teacher of Portuguese and spared no efforts to help Vietnamese students get access to further education opportunities abroad.

Local students have also been offered chances to join an annual summer exchange programme between Hanoi University and its partners in Macau.
