Internet speed affected as cable breaks

The Asia-Pacific Getaway (APG) Submarine cable from Vietnam to some Asian countries broke at 5.30 pm on May 27, affecting internet connections.

The broken cable section is 132km away from Danang. The cause for the damaged cable as well as the estimated repair time is still unknown. The internet connection to foreign websites such as well as Facebook and Google will be slower.

This is the fourth time the internet cable has been broken in 2019. Three internet cables also broke from February 26 to 28 continually. It took two months to completely repair the cables.

The APG cable was officially put into use in December 2016. It is 10,400km long and has a capacity of more than 54 Tbps (terabytes per second). This cable runs through the Pacific Ocean to connect to China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
