It is necessary to give more funding to vocational training for rural workers in the 2011-2020 period, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Under the programme “Providing vocational training for rural workers till 2020”, the MARD asked the Government to allocate another VND10,000 billion from the state budget for the 2011-2020 period.

MARD Deputy Minister Nguyen Dang Khoa said that the ministry will be in charge of providing vocational training in agriculture for rural workers. The MARD plans to train around 300,000 rural workers each year with the aim of raising the total number of trained rural workers in the country from 20 percent in 2011 to 50 percent in 2020.

The programme will focus on such areas as farming, breeding, afforestation, aquaculture and agricultural services in the next five years (2011-2015) and on other key areas to produce agricultural commodities in a modern way in the last five years (2015-2020).
