Lao leader talks with former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers

General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith met and talked in Hanoi on December 20 with former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos and the two countries’ young generations. 

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, leaders of the two Parties and States, 260 delegates representing tens of thousands of former Vietnamese volunteers and military experts in Laos and more than 250 young people attended the event. 

In his speech, Vorachith recalled the Vietnam-Laos traditional special solidarity founded and fostered by Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong, which has become an invaluable common asset of the two countries over the past four decades. 

He said the Party, State and people of Laos highly value great contributions and sacrifices by Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts during the Lao revolutionary cause.

The guest vowed to continue protecting and maintaining special ties with the Party, State and people of Vietnam and wished good health to former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, experts and families of war heroes, who are expected to educate young generations about bilateral special ties in celebration for the 70th anniversary of Traditional Day of Volunteer Soldiers in 2019. 

Speaking at the event, head of the Liaison Committee of Vietnamese Volunteers and Military Experts, Maj. Gen Huynh Dac Huong, said Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and Vietnam – Laos fighting alliance have become an extremely important part of the history of Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam special relations. 

He promised to continue developing bilateral relations in the future. 

Le Thi Hong Nhung, head of the Students’ Association of the Academy of Finance, said young generations will inherit the tradition of predecessors to contribute to the development of each country as well as the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

On the occasion, Vorachith and CPV leader Nguyen Phu Trong presented gifts to five Vietnamese heroic mothers.
