Brunei, Vietnam bolster defence ties

(VOV) -Vice Admiral Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People's Army welcomed Director of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Defence Academy, Haij Hadi Saim, on a working visit to Vietnam on May 6.

Minh affirmed that the Vietnam People's Army always attaches importance to promoting the friendship, cooperation and solidarity with Brunei people and army.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral defence cooperation signed by the two nations in 2005 has proved effective, he said.

The Vietnamese senior military official also suggested both sides increase reciprocal information and delegation exchange, cooperate in training, and realise an agreement reached in 2003 on naval cooperation.

The Vietnam People's Army will create favourable conditions for Brunei delegations to visit Vietnam for the best outcome, he added.

Colonel Haij Hadi Saim expressed his hope that the two countries’ defence ministries will help boost cooperation of defence academies of Vietnam and Brunei.

During their stay in Vietnam, the Brunei delegation will hold a working session with the Defence Academy of Vietnam, Tran Quoc Tuan University, pay tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum, and visit the National History Museum and the Vietnam Military History Museum.
