The Standing Office on crimes and drugs under the Ministry of Public Security held a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City on October 8 to review the implementation of an overall plan to fight crimes and drugs and to train cadres in this fight in southern Vietnam over the past five years.

The seminar provided participants with an overview of the criminal and drug situation in Vietnam, the region and the world.

In the reviewed period, Vietnam has made good progress in raising public awareness of the issue, winning people’s support in many forms, and thereby slowing the rate of addiction.

Vietnam has also completed a legal system to deal more effectively with the problem and beefed up its anti-drug units, which have eradicated thousands of drug venues nationwide and broken up many transnational drug rings.

Rehabilitation for addicts has been improved, as has Vietnam’s cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies.
