State President Nguyen Minh Triet, on March 28, called for assistance to poor children living in coastal areas which have always been hit by natural disasters.

In a letter to the Organising Board of the campaign "Month for Poor Children in Coastal Areas," the President said severe weather conditions coupled with natural disasters have caused heavy consequences to the coastal community, especially fishermen. "Therefore, children and families in coastal areas need more care from the entire society," President Triet wrote.

He asked concerned agencies to continue appropriate activities to provide more care and education for children and prevent them from roaming the streets for livelihood.

He also called on all organisations and individuals to warmly respond to the campaign "Month for Poor Children in Coastal Areas" jointly launched by the Ministry of Fisheries and the Committee for Population, Families and Children. The campaign will begin on April 1, the traditional day of the Vietnamese fisheries sector.
