As many as 19 volunteers from the Republic of Korea (RoK) arrived in Hanoi on May 16 to launch a project on providing technical assistance for localities across Vietnam in such areas as Korean language education, information technology, construction and health care.

A total of 60 Korean volunteers will be sent to Vietnam this year to join the two-year project, part of a technical agreement between Vietnam and the RoK, according to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Vietnam.

The RoK Government has sent 10 volunteers to Vietnam each year since 1994.
So far, 192 Korean volunteers have taught the Korean language at eight universities in Vietnam, as well as helping to train local Taekwondo athletes and young people in information technology, health care and ornamental gardening techniques.
