The 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese catholic community was celebrated in Thailand’s Chanthaburi province on December 9.

The event was attended by representatives from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA), the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand.

After three centuries, Vietnamese nationals in Chanthaburi province have become a major community, contributing positively in many ways to the province’s development.

Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy Governor of Chanthanburi province thanked the Vietnamese Government for supporting the Vietnamese Catholic community there and said he hopes that Vietnam-Thailand relations will continue to flourish in the near future.

Earlier on December 8, the representatives from the COVA, the VFF and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs met with Chanthaburi province’s Governor Poonsak Pranootnaraparn. Mr Poonsak said that his province is to build a new port to run ships to Phu Quoc island in Kien Giang province to enhance tourism and trade activities between the two countries.
