Phu Quoc tourism needs over 6,000 skilled workers

The need becomes more urgent as Phu Quoc will put into use many hi-end resorts and four or five-star hotels, with more than 2,000 rooms, by late 2014 and in early 2015, according to Huynh Quang Hung, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee. 

Tourism businesses recruiting and giving on-the-spot training to local labourers is one of the measures to address the issue, he suggested. 

The number of tourists to Phu Quoc is expected to surge, following the enactment of a policy to grant 30-day visa exemption for foreign passport holders, Hung said. 

With 7-10 flights between Russia and Phu Quoc a day, the arrivals of European visitors, particularly Russians, are soaring. The district is planning to launch more international air routes. 

Hung noted that Phu Quoc will work to tap its potential in maritime and eco-tourism along with reducing service fees there. 

A current 50-60% drop in electricity price is also a good condition for the district to cut down its service charge. 

Currently, 174 tourism projects are underway in Phu Quoc, including 82 licensed with a total investment of VND92 trillion (US$4.88 billion). 

The district has 125 hotels and accommodation places and 75 vessels to serve sightseeing tours.
