A press conference was held in Hanoi on Thursday to announce the organisation of the International Software and Games Festival (ISGAF), one of Vietnam’s largest information technology (IT) events of the year.

The event will be co-organised by the Vietnamese Software Enterprises Association (VINASA) and the International Data Group in Vietnam (IDG Vietnam) and be held at the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre in Hanoi from May 26-29.

From 2006, ISGAF will be expanded into an international IT event to become the most important marketing activity of Vietnam’s software industry.

Speaking at the press briefing, VINASA General Secretary Pham Tan Cong said ISGAF 2006 will take place at a time when Vietnam’s software and games industries are boosting their activities. Many software companies have gained an annual growth of more than 50 percent and employ approximately 500 programmers. The industries have attracted many foreign business delegations, including those from Japan and the Republic of Korea.

The Ministry of Post and Telematics has just launched its first strategy for the software industry. Therefore, ISGAF is considered a very important event to promote the development of the Vietnamese software industry in the current context of international integration and the establishment of the digital entertainment industry, Mr Cong added.

Major activities of ISGAF 2006 include an international fair and exhibition on software, games, IT and Telecom peripheral devices; international seminars on software and games, including an ICT forum involving the Republic of Korea, Japan and multinational co-operations; and business matching activities.

During the event, two award ceremonies will also be held to present Sao Khue 2006 Awards and VietGames prizes.

ISGAF 2006 expects to draw the participation of leading IT firms from 20 countries and territories around the world.
