Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang from Dak Lak province has officially qualified for the 2006 Toyota Tennis Tournament after defeating Japanese opponent Hirose Mutsoko.

This is the first time a Vietnamese tennis player has qualified for an official round of the Toyota tournament without any special favour, though Vietnam has hosted the event for around six years.

The tournament’s official round began on May 15, with a match between Tran Thi Kim Loi (Vietnam) and Sandy Gumulya (Indonesia). Tran Thuy Trang will play against Yonemura (Japan) and Huynh Mai Huynh will compete against Kriz Nicole (Australia) on May 16.
