Quota, and visa and ELVIS requirements for goods exports from Vietnam are officially eliminated from January 11, 2007.

The elimination came after a directive by R. Matthew Priest, new chairman of the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Argeements (CITA) was published in a Federal Register notice on January 10.

The CITA chairman's directive to US Customs and Border Protection states that goods exported from Vietnam prior to January 11, 2007 will continue to be charged to the applicable quota (either 2006 or January 1 through January 10, 2007), and paper visa and ELVIS requirements will remain in effect for goods exported from Vietnam prior to January 11, 2007.

The cancellation of the quotas is the result of Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on January 11.

So far, there is no further direction from the Commerce Department regarding the import monitoring programme for textile and apparel products of Viet nam.
