Vietnam’s Tra and Basa catfish supplies are still far from meeting Egypt’s demand for this kind of food, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Le Tien Ba.

The scarcity was attributed to the month of Ramadan starting on September 1, which made many Egyptians in late August and early September flock to the market to buy food for reserve, said the Ambassador.

He added that apart from Egyptian businesses, diplomatic representatives from many other countries are also interested in this food and often ask for related information.

Vietnamese catfish has recently become a popular dish in the Egyptian daily meals thanks to its cheap price but good taste.
