A conference for these agreements, the first of its kind, was presided over by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on November 11.

The conference introduced checking and controlling activities in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

All representatives from the four countries affirmed the necessity of these activities as well as the need to build a checking system from the central to grassroots level.

However, they also pointed out many shortcomings such as an incomplete legal corridor and limited techniques for trade checking, and poor coordination between relevant agencies. These inconsistencies necessitated cooperation between the regional countries to make markets healthy.

Within the conference, the Vietnam Market Control Department signed two memorandums of understanding with its counterparts from Laos and Cambodia to exchange information in the field and coordinate in specific programs.

Nguyen Hung Dung, Head of the department, said this annual conference will be held rotationally in Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.
