Promoting cooperation with India in various fields

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged Vietnamese agencies in India to intensify their diverse activities aimed at promoting the friendship with India.

Immediately after his arrival in New Delhi on December 20 for the two-day ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit, PM Dung visited Vietnamese embassy staff and the Vietnamese expatriate community in India.

Dung praised their efforts in strengthening the cooperative ties of Vietnam’s traditional relationship with India.

He underlined the need for political diplomacy at all levels as well as deepened mutual understanding, trust, and support regarding Vietnam’s and ASEAN’s positions on the East Sea.

It is imperative to enhance economic diplomacy, expanding consumer markets to rapidly increase two-way trade and guard its balance.

It is essential to foster favourable conditions for Indian businesses to expand investment in Vietnam and involve themselves in tourism, Dung said.

The Vietnamese Government has instructed the Ministry of Transport to accelerate negotiations for a new direct air route between the two countries as soon as possible, said Dung.

The Government leader also stressed the importance of cooperating with India in culture, education and training, science and technology, as well as reinforcing already reliable defence and security collaboration.

PM Dung and the delegation he heads continues to contribute to substantive and fruitful ASEAN-India dialogues with a focus on working together on economics, trade, investment, science and technology, addressing inequality, and broadening connectivity. All these efforts are made in the name of defending peace, stability, maritime security and safety, effective disaster response, ASEAN community relations, and transnational law enforcement.

PM Dung will use the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit to foster the Vietnamese-Indian strategic partnership and the bilateral relationship more generally.

The same day, PM Dung met with leaders of Indian political parties, including

General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakash Karat, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Sudhakar Reddy, representative of the Indian National Congress Vishvjit Singh and General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vijay Goel.

Dung thanked the parties for their role in strengthening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, Government and people are grateful for the Indian people’s valuable assistance during Vietnam’s struggles for national independence and current development.

The Indian parties expressed their common wish to boost the traditional friendship with Vietnam and agreed to continue enhancing delegation exchanges to share experience in research and theoretical issues.
