The Party Political Bureau had working sessions with the Party committees of Can Tho city and Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Long An and Tien Giang provinces to give comments on draft documents and personnel plans for the municipal and provincial Party congresses in the coming term (2010-2015).

The working sessions took place from August 9-11 with the participation of politburo members Nguyen Minh Triet, State President; Ho Duc Viet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Organisation Commission; and Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

President Nguyen Minh Triet praised the preparation of documents and personnel plans and important achievements in socio-economic and cultural development, including party-building work, political systems, and the security and defence, obtained by the Party committees and people of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Long An and Tien Giang provinces and Can Tho city during the 2006-2010 term.

The economic structure has been developed in line with industrialisation and modernisation, with industry and services making up the largest proportion. Can Tho city boasts a GDP of US$2,000 per capita, and Khanh Hoa province over US$1,500.

These localities also saw developments in the socio-culture, security-defence, party-building work, and the implementation of the “Studying and following the President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” campaign.

President Triet urged the five localities to look into their weaknesses, raise the spirit of criticism and self-criticism while assessing and analysing their shortcomings and then set goals and targets for development in the coming term.

He also asked the local Party committees to continue implementing political and ideological work among the Party members, people, officials and workers.

They should focus on mass mobilisation and religion-related work, poverty reduction, socio-cultural development, and the training and development of human resources and personnel planning, particularly training for female personnel.
