The US Navy’s hospital ship Mercy will anchor in Nha Trang Port to provide free medical examinations and surgery to children with cleft palates in the three provinces of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan from June 19-26.

Doctors, nurses and dentists on the ship are expected to spend three days carrying out examinations, distributing medicines and conducting onboard operations.

Moreover, the ship will give technical assistance to the Khanh Hoa health centre and to train its staff.

The Mercy was originally built as an oil tanker in 1976. In 1984, she was renamed and converted to a functional hospital ship with the aim of providing quality care to the US military and those most in need around the globe./.
