Da Lat to put logo on veggies to avoid confusion with Chinese products

The authorities of Lam Dong province, Vietnam’s major producer of flower, fruit, and vegetables, have decided to stick logos on their agricultural products to avoid being mistaken as Chinese products.

By the end of 2017, all agricultural products produced in Da Lat city and the surrounding must be transported to Da Lat or Duc Trong agricultural markets for quality inspection, semi-processing, and labeled with the logo "Da Lat vegetables" before being distributed.

By the end of 2016, the authorities of Lam Dong province will complete the logo labeling for onions and potatoes.

These have been the typical agricultural products of Da Lat but for many years many traders sold fake Chinese products to earn high profits.

Nguyen Van Son, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong, said that each year Da Lat and the surrounding areas provided the market with no less than 2 million tons of fruit and vegetables. Approximately 60% of the output is shipped to HCM City.

Nguyen Van Yen, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong province, said the labeling of Da Lat vegetables logo on agricultural products would create transparency and clear agricultural origin for Da Lat agricultural produce and prevent consumer fraud.
