A census of the labour force in 2006 was conducted from April 1-11 and the results will be released in October, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The census is underway in all 64 provinces and cities nationwide at a total cost of VND60 billion (roughly US$3.75 million). As many as 6,000 households in every locality have been randomly selected for the census.

With 68 questions, triple the number of previous years, the 2006 census will provide more concrete data on the labour force, human development index (HDI), reproductive health index, education levels, and especially gender equity in some localities.
