The Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Canadian province of British Columbia will hold more discussions to prepare for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral labour cooperation as soon as possible.

During a recent Canada visit by a delegation from the Department for Managing Workers Overseas under MoLISA, the two sides exchanged their ideas on many issues relating to labour cooperation prospects, especially the principles for mutual cooperation in the field. They also reached agreement on major issues.

The Canadian market, especially its western provinces such as British Columbia and Alberta, is short of skilled workers and needs about 35,000 foreign workers in construction, agriculture, mechanics, IT, food processing and hotel management annually.

Last May, British Columbia received 28 Vietnamese labourers for its mushroom planting farms. From now to early 2009, the province will receive another about 70 Vietnamese workers in either construction or mushroom planting.
