Cold Food Festival has Hanoians hungry for cakes

VOV.VN - From the early hours of the morning, Hanoians have been busy making and buying “banh troi" and "banh chay" (white sticky rice balls) for the Cold Food Festival which falls on the third day of March on the lunar calendar.

Sticky rice balls are sold by shops along many of Hanoi’s streets.

Mrs Thuy, a trader at Vinh Tuy market in Hai Ba Trung precinct, says her family had to stay up all night to make enough cakes to meet the demands of customers on Cold Food Day.

A plate of banh troi and a bowl of banh chay costs from VND20,000-25,000.

 
 

Shops have ready-prepared cakes and the materials to make fresh cakes for their customers.

Banh troi and banh chay are sold at markets in Hanoi.

Local people line up to buy banh troi and banh chay from a shop on Ngo Thi Nham Street.

A shop on Tran Xuan Soan Street is famous for making banh troi and banh chay.
