COVID-19: Two imported cases take Vietnam’s tally to 1,126

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed on October 17 two returnees from India and Myanmar have been exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing Vietnam’s tally of coronavirus infections to 1,126.

One of the two cases, a 30-year-old Indian man, took flight 6E9471 from India to Vietnam on October 6. The man, who is an expert, first tested negative on October 7 but his second test turned positive after he had a cough on October 16.

The test result was then confirmed by the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Tropical Diseases the following day. He was the 17th coronavirus case detected on the same flight from India.

The other patient is a Vietnamese citizen from Thai Binh province. The 37-year-old man took flight VJ2735 from Myanmar to Vietnam on October 15. He tested positive by the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute on October 17, and is now receiving treatment at a medical centre in Khanh Hoa province, central Vietnam.

The two cases were placed in quarantine as soon as they landed in Vietnam, thus posing no risk to the community, the Ministry of health assured.
