Severe flooding leaves 14 dead and missing in Yen Bai
VOV.VN - Heavy rains and widespread flooding in the northern province of Yen Bai has left 14 dead and missing and many others injured, with property losses reaching about VND10 billion, according to the Central Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
As of 12pm on July 20, flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy downpours had left three dead in Yen Bai, two in Thanh Hoa and 13 people are still missing.
The floods have swept away a total of 98 houses in localities of Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh, while many roads in Yen Bai, Son La, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are blocked by landslides and debris.
Heavy rains and severe flooding in Yen Bai have destroyed 642 houses, including 79 houses which were totally destroyed. Nearly 300 households have moved their assets to safe shelters.
Local authorities and relevant forces in Yen Bai have arrived on the scene to inspect the flooding situation and help residents stabilize their lives while deploying measures to evacuate residents from high-risk areas.
