Mozambique, Vietnam forge legislative ties

The Vietnam National Assembly (NA) is keen to work with Mozambique’s Assembly to elevate their bilateral ties, thus matching the fruitful political ties between the two countries, said NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

At a reception for Ines Martins, Chairperson of the Mozambican Assembly’s Commission on International Relations, Cooperation and Communities in Hanoi on April 5, Phong said Vietnam highly values the role and position played by Mozambique in the Southern African region, as well as in the African and the Portuguese-speaking communities.

She expressed her delight at the increasingly enhanced friendship and traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique, especially in the spheres of agriculture, health care, education and training, and information technology.

The host said the State-level visit to Mozambique by former President Truong Tan Sang last month has strengthened the solidarity and collaboration between the two nations.

Vietnam and Mozambique still hold substantial potential for cooperation, particularly in economy, trade, agriculture and oil and gas, Phong said, urging the two sides to step up their exchanges of high-level delegations, foreign activities and people-to-people exchanges in order to propel the relations in all fields.

The legislator used the occasion to convey NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s invitation to Speaker of the Mozambican Assembly Veronica Macamo to visit Vietnam at an early date.

For her part, Ines Martins said her Vietnam visit aims to strengthen the friendship and time-honoured cooperation between the two countries, and prepare for the Speaker’s upcoming visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

Hailing the affiliation between Vietnam and Mozambique over the past years, especially in economy, education and telecommunications, the guest noted her belief that all-round collaboration will advance in times to come.

Earlier the same day, Ines Martins held talks with head of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang.

At the meeting, the two sides held that bilateral trade turnover and investment cooperation has yet to match their potential and strengths.

They, therefore, called on Vietnamese and Mozambican legislators to back and foster economic, trade and investment ties in all areas.

They also agreed to boost exchanges and cooperation activities, especially between high-ranking delegations, join hands in supervising the actualisation of reached agreements, and enhance their coordination at multilateral forums.
