Charity market brings a warmer Tet to the poor

VOV.VN - All of the goods are being given to the poor for free at a charity market on February 3-4 in Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi with the aim of delivering a warm and happy Lunar New Year (Tet) to disadvantaged people.

This is the second time that the charity market has been held at Thong Nhat Park.

Essential goods needed to celebrate Tet are available at the market such as clothes, confectionery, candies, jams, pork pies, sticky rice, green beans, bamboo shoots, fish sauce, cooking oil, fruits, and household commodities.

All of the items are offered for free.

Each disadvantaged person visiting the market is presented with a voucher to buy 10 kinds of goods with each item worth a minimum of VND50,000.

Prior to the opening of the market, the organizing board present vouchers to the needy at big hospitals and in labourers’ living areas.

Do Thi Thanh Ha, member of the organizing board, says on the first morning of the market nearly 3,000 vouchers were delivered to poor people and patients.

From early in the morning many poor labourers and disadvantaged people have arrived at the special market and used their vouchers to buy the necessary goods to prepare for the upcoming Tet.

Nguyen Chung Ngoc from Thanh Hoa province, a patient at the National Cancer Hospital, sends her sincere thanks to the organizers for bringing them a warmer Tet.

Volunteers help elderly people to buy their goods.
