Vietnamese cultural identity in transition

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese cultural identity is in a state of flux and transition as society moves from an agrarian grounded in agriculture to one more industrialized, says the Ministry of Information and Communications.

But what does this all mean to the nation’s youth and where is the small Southeast Asian headed? To answer these questions the Ministry has opened an exhibition at the Vietnam Arts and Culture Exhibition Centre in Hanoi.

With hundreds of books, photos and other documents, the exhibition, running December 16-18, provides an overview of the path the country is on and offers answers to the myriad of issues related to the transition.

In particular, the exhibition focuses on the formation of ASEAN and provides the opportunity for youth to understand what the newly formed cultural and economic region is all about and how it affects their lives.

It isn’t so much a question of promoting an image, as much as it is about instilling in youth an understanding of what the new Vietnamese cultural identity is and why it is important.

Through the exhibition, it is hoped that youth will better understand the value and benefits of ASEAN integration in proper context along with an appreciation for the opportunities and challenges it provides them individually as well as collectively.
